Why This Cabinet is Different?
The new Nepali Cabinet, sworn in on March 27, 2026, represents a historic departure from Nepal's traditional political landscape. Following the " Gen Z Uprising" and the subsequent landslide victory of the Ristriya swatantra Party (RSP) in the march 5 snap election, the composition and philosophy of this government are fundamentally different in several ways.
The Sense of Transformation felt after the 1959 ( 2015 BS) elections in Nepal is being experienced once again. This government features a spectrum of leadership, from the popular Balan to the Word- renowned economics expert swarnim wagle. Furthermore, the keys to peace and security of country have reached the hands of sudan Gurung, a leader of the Gen Z movement.
This Government is different From Nepal's previous governments in many ways. Firstly, the formation of this government itself is built on strong public support. 1. Balendra Shah ( Balen Shah) - Prime Minister, Defense, and Industry Minister Former Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan. Balen shah was a structural engineer And Rapper before entering full-time politics.
He holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil engineering From Himalayan WhiteHouse International College in kathamandu.
He completed a Master's Degree in Structural Engineering from Nitte meenakshi Institute of technology in Bengaluru, India. (2016-1018) He was also pursuing a PhD in civil Engineering at Kathmandu University, with a topic related to tha conservation of Newa heritage structures to promote tourism and economy. He was around 36 years old. He is one of Nepal's youngest prime ministers.
2. Dr. Swarnim Wagle - Deputy prime Minister and Finance Minister Prominent economist with advanced degrees from harvarf and the London school of economics. Former advisor to UNDP. Brings strong expertise in economic policy, reforms and fiscal Management. He is the oldest member in this otherwise very young Cabinet ( the average age of ministers is around 38. He brings the most extensive professional experience to the team in terms of economic policy and international development.
3. Shisir Khanal: Minister For Foreign Affairs
Age: 46 years old
Experience: He is Co-founder and CEO of Teach For Nepal, Where he led initiatives to bridge the educational gap in rural public schools.
Legislative: Elected Member of parliament from Kathamandu constituency ( kshetra) No. 6
Executive: Former Education, science and technology Minister
Shisir Khanal was recognized for applying a technocratic and result-oriented approach to a ministry often burdened by bureaucratic delays.
Education: Master of Public Affairs (MPA) with a focus on international public affairs from the University of Wisconsin- Madison, USA.
From Grassroots Educational reform to diplomatic leadership.
Current position: Foreign Affairs Minister in the Balen's shah led cabinet. He ranked Third in the cabinet hierarchy.
4. Biraj Bhakta Shrestha: Minister of Energy, Water Resources and irrigation.
Age: He is Currently in 44 years old.
Experience: Biraj bhakta Shrestha is known For his roles in entrepreneurship, social activism and legislative leadership.
Entrepreneurship: Before politics, he involve in various businesses in the Media served sector ( COO of Green Tara Media and marketing), hospitality sector including hotel and restaurants.
Legislative: He served as a member of the Bagamati provincial Assembly ( 2017-2011), His Federal Parliament journey began after being elected from kathamandu Constituency No. 8, serving a tenure from 2022 - 2025. During this tenure, he became widely known for his sharp, witty and satirical critiques, fearlessly exposing the flaws and irregularities within the parliamentary proceedings.
Current Biraj Bhakta Shrestha Represents Kathamandu -8 for a second consecutive term, following a landslide victory in the 2026 elections where he secured over 67% of the total votes.
Executive: Former youth and sports Minister in this tenure his role if impactful, Shrestha focused on structural accountability rather than populist announcements. By institutionalizing the national sports calendar.

5. Sudan Gurung: Home minister
Age: 38 years old
Born district: Gorkha
Education: SLC pass.
Current position: Home Minister in the Balen's shah led cabinet.
He Comes from a non- traditional political background . Before entering Activism and politics, he worked as an event manager, DJ. and was involved in the nightlife scene.
His life changed dramatically after the 2015 Nepal earthquake, when he personally lost a child. This tragedy pushed him into humanitarian work.
6. Sunil Lamsal: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport - Minister For Urban Development.
Age: 35 Years.
Education: Master's in Structural Engineering From Nitte Meenakshi Institute India. Currently a PhD scholar in solid Waste Management at Kathamandu University. He has General secretary of Rastriya Swatandra Party.
Constituency: Elected From Rupandehi -1 with a massive margin Of 42,863 votes. Before entering parliament, he was the Infrastructure and environment Expert in Mayor Balen Shah's Secretariat. He has worked as a technical consultant for infrastructure in model schools across 35 district and district hospital in 12 districts.
7. Sobita Gautam: Minister for law, justice and parliamentary Affairs
Age: 30 Years old. ( youngest Cabinet member )
Education: BA.LLB from National law college and Development Studies From kathmandu University.
Advocate: she practiced law with a focus on human rights and social Justice. She was also Founding member of the Rastriya swatantra party. Legislative: She was Elected MP in the form of Youngest Directly Elected MP From kathamandu- 2 at the age of 27. In the most recent elections She moved her candidacy to chitawan-3 . She defeated Renu Dahal By a staggering margin of over 38,000 votes.
8. Sita Badi: Minister for women Children and senior Citizen .
Age: 31 Years.
Education: Master Degree in political science and bachelor in social Work from pushpalal memorial college.
She is originally From surkhet in karnali province. She is a Historic figure as a minister nark the first time in Nepal's history that a member of the highly marginalize Badi community has reached the federal cabinet.
Sita Badi Faced extreme poverty, She spent her childhood collecting and crushing sand from the Bheri river.
Sher grew up facing the triple burden of being a Woman, a Dalit and a member of the badi community. that has historically faced several exclusion and misplaced stereotypes.
At the age of 12 she moves in kathmandu for studies in the support of an NGO. She consciously chose to study Political Science and social work to understand the system that kept her community marginalized.
She work in the form of Social worker, entrepreneurship, Badi Representation.
9. Prativa Rawal: Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration - Minister for land Management, cooperatives and poverty Alleviation.
Age: 32 years.
Education: Postgraduate Degree From Chennai, India.
Legislative: Member of Parliament elected via the proportional Representation from the list of Khas arya Femal Cluster.
Prativa Rawal spent nearly a decade in investigative and policy- oriented journalism before entering politics.
She is a Center Commitee mamber and co-spokesperson of RSP.
10. Nisha Mehta: Minister for Health and population and Minister for Water supply
Age: 38 years old.
Education: Master Degree in Nursing from Post Graduate College of Nursing, Gwalior, india.
Experience: She worked as a clinical nurse at the B.P Koirala institute of health sciences in Dharan.
she Served as an Associate professor and nurse at Birat Teaching hospital in Biratnagar.
She has been a member of the RSP since its inception in 2022.
11. Susmit Pokharel: Minister For Education, science and technology - Minister of youth and sports and spokes person of Nepal government.

Education: Bachelor in Law form Kathamandu University school of law and currently pursuing a Master in policy, Governance, and anti- Corruption studies .

12. Khadak Raj Poudel ( Ganess Poudel): Minister For Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

Experience: Before entering formal politics, he established himself as a prominent Novelist and Translator. Paitala is one of his Novel.
He first gained national poltical attention by running as an independent Candidate for Mayors of pokhara Metropolitan in the local level elections 0f 2022. Although he did not win.
He has extensive experience in media. having work across print, radio, and digital paltforms, in the focusing on cultural and administrative critiques.

In the march 2026 election, he secured a historic win in Constituency No. 1 of kaski.

13. Dr. Bikram Timilsina: Minister For Communication and Information Technology.

Education: PhD in politics, Geopolitics and International Relations.
In the 2026 elections, he secured a major victory in nuwakot Constituency No 1 Defeating seasoned political heavyweights Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat.
Dr. timilsena is one of the most highly educated members of the current cabinet. Before entering politics, he was the chair of the Asian Institute for advanced Rearearch. He also a leacture at TU. He has nearly 15 years of experience in the communication sector.
14. Gita Chaudhary: Minister For Agriculture and Livestock Development - Minister for Forests And Environment.

Constituency: Member of parliament elected via proportional Representation list under the Tharu female cluster.
Education: postgraduate Degree in law (LL.M).
Gita Chaudhary journey is a powerful case study of professional merit overcoming social barriers.
She born in a Humble Tharu Family in kanchanpur, she faced significant financial scarcity. She is a lawyer and social Worker with a focus on free legal aid and social justice.
15. Dipak Kumar Shah: Minister For Labor, Employment and Social Security.

Constituency: He Won the Mahottari Constituency No. 2 seat with 32,722 votes.
